Rino Mathis is one of the newest members of the Swiss Pokerstars Team and origionally from Switzerland. He has been winning live poker tournaments throughout Europe since 1996 and by current standards could well be considered a veteran of the game. Rino’s background lies in chess and backgammon, in 1993 Rino won the European Backgammon Championship, but he transferred his skills to the poker arena in an attempt to take down some of the much bigger prize pools on offer. Rino has an awesome live tournament record over the years including 3 cashes in the WSOP. In total Rino has managed to amass over $500,000 in live tournament winnings.

WSOP Career
Whilst Rino has a fantastic record in European poker tournaments he has only managed to cash three times at the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas. His first cash came in 2007 when he played the $1,500 Pot Limit Omaha Hi Lo Split 8 or Better tournament. Rino finished in 40th place for a cash worth $4,595. The second cash of his career in the WSOP came in 2008 in the $2,500 No Limit Holdem event in which Mathis came 104th worth $3,724 in prize money. In 2008 Rino also cashed in the $10,000 World Championship Pot Limit Omaha event coming in 18th place winning $35,814.
European Live Event Record
There aren’t many players with a better record in terms of consistency than Rino in European poker. He has been cashing on a regular basis in a variety of live tournaments since 1996. Currently the biggest cash of his career came in November 2002 when Mathis came 3rd in the Amsterdam Master Classics of Poker event winning $95,646. A few of his other many successes include victory in the 2006 Bregenz Open and 1st place in the Pot Limit Omaha tournament at EPT Vilamoure in 2009.
